SAL MASSA, Ph.D., NCSP

School Psychologist

Hi.  Thanks for visiting my web page.  I hope that you will find that it describes who I am and what I do here at the Red Hook Central School District.  I had worked at Mill Road since 1986 until being reassigned to the High School for the 2011-12 school year.  Originally, I was the only psychologist for all three buildings.  Over the years, we have added staff and now have about one psychologist for every 600 students.  I am one of two doctoral-level psychologists in district.  I am also a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, a licensed Clinical Psychologist and an adjunct faculty member at Marist College.

A school psychologist has specialized training in both psychology and education.  We use our training and skills to help every child learn to the best of their ability.  When needed, we consult with educators, parents and other professionals to insure that every child learns in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.

School psychologists design their approaches to address the particular needs of each child.  We use many different techniques and are involved in consultation, assessment, intervention, prevention and education.  We are part of the Child Study Team (CST), the Section 504 Committee, and the Committee on Special Education (CSE).  Additionally, I am the CSE chairperson for the secondary level (grades 6-12).

If you need to contact me you can email me at smassa@rhcsd.org or call me at 758-2241 ext. 3297.
