Awareness, Civility, & Tolerance

{No Bullying}

Take A Stand Against Bullying!

A group of teachers, administrators, and students have joined together to form the Awareness, Civility, and Tolerance (ACT) Team.  The team’s mission is to further a positive culture within the school and to eliminate bullying.  Bullying is a concern in schools of all levels nationwide.  At LAMS, we wish to be at the forefront of addressing this issue.

We believe:

1.   Bullying and cyberbullying are serious issues that deserve our attention and action.

2.   In order to learn, our students need to feel safe.

3.   Everyone in our school community has the right to learn and work in an environment free from bullying, harassment, and/or discrimination.

What is Bullying?

Bullying means any overt act or combination of acts directed against a student by another student or group of students and which:

1. is repeated over time;

2. is intended to ridicule, humiliate, or intimidate the student; and

3. occurs before, during, or after the school day on school property, on a school bus, or at a school-sponsored activity.

What is Cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is the harmful application of technology by students wishing to extend the reach and impact of their bullying behavior during and beyond school hours. It is the use of information and communication technologies such as e-mail, cell phone and pager text messages, instant messaging, defamatory personal Web sites, defamatory online personal polling Web sites, and digital photography, to support repeated acts by an individual or group, that are intended to embarrass, humiliate or intimidate their victim.
