                   Overview
The English Department of Red Hook High School  has created a curriculum
designed around the rigorous study of complex texts.  This requires that all
    students be engaged and active
learners, who thoughtfully respond to these
texts in both written and spoken form.  In this way, students will develop
the skills necessary to become critical readers and writers.

    Curriculum Rationale Statement

A rationale statement explains the educational purpose of the curriculum. The high school English Department curriculum includes a wide range of texts including the literary classics, short stories, and contemporary texts. Some of the literature our students read is fairly lighthearted fare while other texts are far more complex, presenting layers of resonance for the reader.
