• Guest speakers from our community enrich the health curriculum in many ways...
Here are some examples of possible guest speakers. They will vary depending on schedules and availability.
    Topic: Mental Health
Student Services comes in to introduce themselves and explain how they are available to assist students. They also play an interactive trivia game with the students which includes warning signs of  mental disorders, healthy coping strategies, and how to get help for yourself or a friend.
    Topic: Drug prevention
A small group of Daytop/Samaritan Village residents (accompanied by their counselor) share their personal stories, with the main message being to stay away from drugs. They discuss their background, how drugs have negatively impacted their lives, and what their recovery has been like.
    Topic: Alcohol and drugs
Red Hook Police Officers speak about the laws, consequences and dangers of alcohol/drug use. They address the heroin epidemic as well.
     Topic: Dating abuse
Dating violence educators come to us from the Grace Smith House in Poughkeepsie.  In addition to describing services provided by the organization, the interactive presentation focuses on healthy vs. unhealthy dating relationships.
