    Dear Stupendous Students,

We are getting towards the end of the school year. Keep working hard and doing your best right until the end! Only three more weeks left! (Unless Governor Cuomo changes things.) I noticed this week that some of you have fallen behind. Catch up! You have a long weekend – use it to finish/complete assignments. It would not be a good idea to get behind on your work. Now is not the time to go on summer break. At this point, teachers do not know how quickly we will have to submit report cards when the school year is over. You may not have time to submit late work. If you or someone in your home is sick, let your teachers know. If you have questions, reach out to us.

Your parents may come to the school to retrieve your belongings. Curbside pick-up for your items in your lockers:

    Thursday (5/28) from 8-12

    Friday (5/29) from 2-6

I will be helping to hand out belongings. I hope to see you there! If your parents are working and can’t come to the school at these times, let me know. I will figure out what we can do!

    A few more things:

    • Wash your hands
    • Eat good, healthy food
    • Take your vitamins (if that is something your parents give you)
    • Get plenty of sleep
    • Get outside for exercise and fresh air.

The best way to stay safe is to keep yourself healthy!!

     Warmly.

     Mrs. Fraleigh

    Dear Lovely Students,

I hope you had a good week! You have probably heard by now that school will not reopen for the rest of the school year. This makes me sad. However, I can’t control this, and I have to make the best of it! I strongly encourage you to try to make the best of it and continue to find the silver lining every single day! There is always something you can find to be grateful.

I will start holding Class Meetings for each class. This will give us a chance to connect with classmates, talk about life, and ask questions. All class meetings will take place on Teams. Here is the schedule:

    Social Studies P6  - Mondays at 10:00

    Social Studies P7 – Mondays at 10:30

    Reading P2 – Wednesdays at 10:00

    Reading P3 – Wednesdays at 10:30

    English P4 – Thursdays at 10:00

If you can’t make these meetings, I totally understand! Some of your siblings or parents may need to use the devices at the same time, so there is no pressure if you can’t participate!

I miss you all and will hopefully “see” you next week!

     Warmly,

     Mrs. Fraleigh

    Hi Scholars!

I hope you are all still healthy and went outside for many hours yesterday! I planted a small moon garden. I hope is grows! It is called a moon garden because all the plants have leaves and/or flowers that have white in them. The moonlight is supposed to be easily reflected on the plants.

We are going to do the same thing with your assignments this week as we did last week: There will not be daily assignments each day, but longer assignments with a few days to complete them. Please pay attention to the due dates.

If you have any questions, please ask! As always, just do the best that you can!

     Warmly,

     Mrs. Fraleigh

    Dear Students,

I hope you all had a good week! I miss you guys! You have probably already heard but school will be closed through May 15th. I can get into the building for a brief amount of time this week. Let me know ASAP if you are missing any of the reading books (Elements of Literature, All the Broken Pieces, Detectives in Togas), Wordly Wise books, or any other books needed for your work. Please do this privately via email or private Teams chat.

Please let me know if you have questions about any of the assignments. You could also just let me know your thoughts on any assignment! You can do this in a private chat or on the post with the assignment.

We are going to do something a bit different with your assignments this week to allow more flexibility with getting work completed. Please continue to check your Teams each day. However, we will not be putting up daily assignments. Instead, we will be giving a few longer assignments with more days to complete them. Overall, it will still be the same amount of work time. Please do not wait until the due date to attempt to do your work. It sounds like many of you have a daily routine going! Try to stick to your daily routine and pace yourself and your work. We hope this allows you more flexibility to complete your work and causes less stress. We realize you may be sharing devices with many others in your home. As always, please do the best you can!

I can’t wait for school to start again! I would much prefer to see your smiling faces than this computer screen!

Life Lesson #1,843 (Just kidding – I don’t know what number we are up to!) Keep thinking about the silver lining – find something to be grateful for each and every day!

    Warmly,

    Mrs. Fraleigh

Sent to students & parents via email on 4/10:

    Dear Students,

Thanks for your patience as we have been figuring out what works on Teams and what isn’t working so well.😊 Thank you to all of you who are putting your best effort into your assignments. We know using all the platforms for online learning are new for many of you and we appreciate all you are doing. Since all the programs we are using are online, we can see how much (or how little 😳) time you are spending on each assignment. As always, please do the best that you can. Take pride in your work! It should be a reflection of your work and effort; not your parents. You may certainly ask them for help if you are really stuck, but it should be your own work. You are getting closer to the end of 6th grade and closer to 7th grade. Please work for greater independence. Many of your parents are trying to work from home for their own job. We believe in you and know you can do this!

A few tips to keep in mind and keep practicing:

    1. You must hit SUBMIT when turning in a Microsoft Forms. Most of you have this figured out, but we are still hearing from a few of you that you forgot and end up losing your work.
    2. Close down Microsoft every night and restart it in the morning. This allows the program to refresh and sync with our assignments.
    3. Open Teams in the web browser and not the app. Using the app does not seem to work as consistently as using the web browser.
    4. READ ALL DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY. We are being as clear in our instructions as we can be. It is up to you to read them slowly and carefully. Some of you are missing important steps, doing the wrong assignment, or only getting half of the assignment.

There are no assignments for the weekend. For those of you that celebrate, Happy Easter! 🐰

We hope you and your families are all healthy.

We miss you, we love you to Orion and back, and we hope to see you in soon in school!❤️

    Hi Everyone!

There have been some problems with submitting your assignments.

#1 - Please make sure you hit the SUBMIT button! 😊

#2 - PLEASE log off of your Microsoft account each night. Some of you are leaving it on and there seems to be a refresh problem.

If any of you need help with this, please reach out to a teacher.

    Go wash your hands!😆

Get outside today! It is going to be beautiful!😎

ORION’S RULES FOR LEARNING FROM HOME

     · CHECK EVERY TEAM(SUBJECT)- EVERY DAY! Be sure to check all of your classes every day including PE and your special. It is like going to school, you need to go to each class J

    · Posts are NOT for students to chat back and forth anymore. Please do not post GIFS at all. Comments from here on out should be between the teacher and the students only.

    · If you have a question to ask, look for the post started by your teacher for each assignment. For example, it might say “ASK QUESTIONS HERE ABOUT WORDLY WISE LESSON 12”. We cannot keep track of 20 different threads of conversation about each assignment. (This will make much more sense on Monday morning.)

    · You are NOT allowed to set up your own TEAM. If you have one you need to delete it. The principals are going to check. You have plenty of social media you may not use TEAMS for that.

    · Your work should take you 20 mins/day for each subject. That is like ½ a period per day for each class. The total time you should be working each day is 2 hours.

    · GRADING – You will get report cards (online not paper) for the 3rd Marking Period. For the 4th Marking Period your grade depends upon you completing the assignments that we give you in Teams. We will give you feedback for these assignments and keep track of what you may be missing. IF we go back to traditional school, we will go back to grading like we did before.

    · TEACHERS HAVE “OFFICE HOURS”! You can talk to them “Live” on teams, email them during this time and you will get an answer asap! ORION OFFICE HOURS ARE:

    Mrs. Fraleigh – 8:00 – 9:00 AM / 12:30- 1:30 PM

    Mrs. Wood – 9:00 -10:00 AM / 1:00 – 2:00 PM

    Mrs. Zduniak- 12:00 – 1:00 PM / 2:30 – 3:30 PM

Sent home via email to all students on 3/30:
    Dear Students,

We hope everyone in your family is healthy!

We met this morning to discuss ways to continue lessons and instruction moving forward.

This week, you should be trying to complete the ten days of instruction previously sent home. We realize some of you didn't get the work until days after other students and some of you had family issues you were dealing with. Just do the best that you can! Please keep all this completed work together for us to hand in when we return to school. The exception to this is your math work. You were given the answer key to check your own work, so you do not need to hand this in.

Next week, you will have spring break! Please enjoy your time off and think about fun, creative ways to spend your days. Maybe try some new recipes. Create works of art, whether they are created indoors or with nature. Read some really good books. How's your room looking? Maybe time to clean and purge some items? 😜

New assignments that need to be completed will be on Teams starting on Tuesday, April 14th. Each class has a different Team, just like you have different classes at school. We will be posting your assignments at the beginning of the week for that entire week. PLEASE pay attention to the due dates. You should NOT be trying to do all the assignments in one day! We are limiting the workload to approximately two hours a day. This equals about 20 minutes per subject. However, you should expect to see less than 24 minutes in Social Studies and Science to give more time for reading, english, and math.

At this point in time, we are not going to do any live instruction. Sorry, but there are too many variables with privacy issues during live instruction and we are not comfortable with what may be open to viewers.  However, if we feel the need, we may be prerecording our instruction to include as part of a lesson on Teams.

The fourth marking period will include your participation with the assignments from Teams and any other assignments when we physically get back to school.

With any assignment, if you have a question, please reach out to us on Teams.

When April 14th rolls around, all chatter on Teams will be school related questions/comments only. We love you guys, but we need to keep the chatter focused. Please find other ways to interact socially with others, from a safe distance, of course.😊

Please be patient with your teachers! We have not had formal training with Teams and are hopeful to get some training this week. We have been trying out a few things so far, but we are still figuring out how to get assignments back from you! We are confident we will have it figured out, but there may some kinks to work out as we go along so please be kind! We are not digital natives like you guys are! 😆

Be on the look out for a prerecorded video from us!!
