The Red Hook Central School District was organized on October 26, 1937 after a fire destroyed the Union Free School District building thereby providing the impetus for 11 Common and Union Free school districts to centralize. On September 6, 1939, the district dedicated a new central school on Linden Avenue.
Since centralization, growth in the community resulted in the construction of a grades 9-12 high school in 1962, and the 1968 construction of an elementary school housing grades PreK-2 in a primary wing and grades 3-5 in an intermediate wing. The original central school, now the Linden Avenue Middle School, currently houses grades 6-8.
The district encompasses approximately 90 square miles and includes portions of the towns of Red Hook, Rhinebeck, and Milan in Dutchess County as well as Clermont and Livingston in Columbia County.Enrollment is just over 1,650 students in grades Pre-K-12 for the 2021-22 school year. Our Mission StatementThe Red Hook Central School District is a welcoming and diverse community of learners committed to personal growth and caring for others. Our Vision StatementThe Red Hook Central School District seeks to empower each individual to embrace today and navigate the possibilities of tomorrow.
