PERSONAL FINANCE WEBQUEST
INTRODUCTIONThroughout your course of study in our Personal Finance classroom, you have learned the importance of setting goals, budgeting, savings, risk management, diversification, asset allocation, tax strategies and the importance of protecting yourself financially.
The purpose of this assignment is to help you understand the value of money and how the career you choose can determine the type of lifestyle you will live.
The Scenario:
You are 22 years old (or whatever age you will be when you plan on getting your first full time job) and looking forward to your future as a financially independent individual.You need to create a detailed personal future financial plan including a budget that will secure your independence. No parents, no roommates...nothing to depend on but your own head on your shoulders!
You currently have $7,000 in a savings account to start with, that may be spent on either necessity or luxury items, or if you choose, not at all.
When working through this assignment, you will be required to find an occupation, set up and maintain a budget based upon your income, rent and furnish an apartment or purchase a home, purchase a car, Set up an investment portfolio, that all fit within your budget. You will be required to complete worksheets that connect to the aforementioned list of PFP practices. The final product will be a Personal Financial Planning Portfolio that include said worksheets packaged together in a creative way (see grading rubric for more details) and including a detailed written summary of what you have learned in the process. You are encouraged to "dream" a little, but keep your findings realistic.ENJOY!!
TASKS
You will be required to complete this WebQuest assignment individually. You will need to gain information from the Internet to complete various parts of this assignment. You should try and use the links provided in each section of the WebQuest. Be sure to make note of the sites you have used to find your information. Remember, sites can change daily, so you need to keep accurate records of when and where you found the necessary information.
Included in each section of this WebQuest is a link to the documents you will need to complete once you have found your necessary information. Be sure to fill out each section completely. At the end of gathering your data from the various sections: Career Exploration, Budgeting, Housing, Automobile, and Investment Portfolio you will be asked to prepare a final paper which incorporates all the data you have gained throughout the completion of this assignment.
You may find that you need to make revisions to your budget as you go along. Remember, a budget should be flexible!!

CAREER EXPLORATION
This is the first step in completing your WebQuest. It is imperative that you understand how the job you choose will determine the type of life you live. You now need to complete some research on your chosen occupation. You may first need to complete the career assessment survey to determine what type of job is best for you.

Once you have found the job you wish to pursue, you need to complete the Career Worksheet in the Project Packet Handout.
BUDGETING
Now that you have found the necessary information regarding your career choice, it is now time to set up your budget. Using the Budget Worksheet from the Project Packet, figure out the amount you have available for the expenses listed. This will help you determine what type of home and car you will be able to afford.

It is not time to try and find a house to live in. Almost everyone has an idea of where they would like to live and what type of house they would like to own. It is now your time to find your dream home. Keep in mind that you will need to figure the monthly mortgage payment to ensure it fits within your budget. You may need to using the BankRate.com Mortgage Calculator or https://www.mortgagecalculator.org/ to figure out the mortgage amount if one is not provided on the site you have chose to use. Be sure to fill out the Housing Worksheet from the Project Packet with the required information. Use some of the links below to help you find your home.

Once you have found your car, fill out the Automobile Worksheet in the Project Packet with all the necessary information.

COMPLETING THE WEBQUESTThe final assignment of this WebQuest is to gather all the data you have collected throughout this assignment and prepare a typewritten report. The rubric provided will give you detailed information on what you will be graded on. Use it as a guide.
The grading scale will be as follows:
90 - 100 A (Excellent project with all the needed information)
80 - 89 B (Above average project with all the needed information)
70 - 79 C (Satisfactory project; does not contain all the needed information)
60 - 69 D (Below average project; missing most of the necessary information)

You will complete the following steps in order to complete a resume for yourself based on previous work experience and aimed at your career interest(s)
Step 1: Complete Resume Worksheet #1 Work Experience. Use this worksheet to list current and previous work experience. For the purposes of this initial resume, you may use volunteer work in addition to paid work experience.
Step 2: Complete Resume Worksheet #2 References. Think of at least two (2) people who can and will give you a glowing recommendation. You should contact your references to get permission to use them as such. You may have to give them a reason why you want them to be a reference for you.
Step 3: Complete Your Resume. Using the accompanying resume Fill in the Blank Resume Form, Resume Tips and Suggestions, and Action Verbs to Strengthen your Resume sheets to type your own resume.
Step 4: Your Final Resume Project. The final product will include the two completed Resume Worksheets, and your Resume packaged together to be handed in and evaluated. Remember, the employer will not be spending a lot of time looking at your resume, it must be short (no more than one (1) page), to the point and stand out. -
