2021-22 Reopening Plan

RHCSD Reopening Plan for 2021-22 School Year

GOAL: PreK – 12 students will return to school on September 8, 2021 and follow a normal schedule of full-day instruction, five days a week.

MASKS: All students and staff will wear masks when indoors and while on the bus, unless medically exempted with a doctor’s note. Visitors to the district will wear masks. Mask breaks will be provided. This requirement will be continually reviewed by the district reopening committee and modifications MAY be made based on variant, community transmission statistics and recommendations from health officials. Masks will be optional when outside.

QUARANTINING: We continue to follow the CDC guidance on quarantining. In the PreK - 12 indoor classroom settings, students within 3 to 6 feet of an infected person while wearing a mask will no longer need to quarantine. Parents must monitor for symptoms and notify the school if a student is symptomatic. Symptomatic students must quarantine. Students who test positive for COVID-19 or students deemed “close contact” will receive asynchronous instruction. Close contact is defined as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. Check-ins from school counselors and communication from teachers will be on-going. Additional support will be added as necessary.

POSITIVE CASE NOTIFICATIONS: A dashboard of positive cases in the school will be available at our Reopening Resources page. Positive, reported cases in students and employees will be posted on that dashboard. Parents/guardians of a student exposed (close contact - see definition above) to a Covid-positive person will be notified via email. An exemption in the K-12 indoor classroom setting, the close contact definition excludes students who were within 3 to 6 feet of an infected student if both the infected student and the exposed student(s) correctly and consistently wore well-fitting masks the entire time. This exception does not apply to teachers, staff, or other adults in the indoor classroom setting. If your child is deemed a close contact, you will be notified by phone. District-wide notifications will not be sent.

PERSONAL HYGIENE: Handwashing and sanitizing protocols established in the 2020-21 school year will continue.

VENTILATION: Maximizing air flow in buildings will continue. Tents will be set up outside each building to accommodate use by faculty and students for instructional purposes and lunch periods.

CLEANING: Cleaning protocols established in the 2020-21 school year will continue.

NUTRITION: ALL students will receive breakfast and lunch FREE OF CHARGE during the 2021-22 school year. Families eligible for the free and reduced lunch program are ENCOURAGED to complete those applications in order to receive other benefits.  Additionally, district funding is improved based on these applications.

LUNCH: Buildings will add extra lunch periods to reduce capacity in their caffeterias. Students will be socially distanced, 3 feet, while eating. The district will encourage lunch outdoors, weather permitting.

TRANSPORTATION: All students and staff must wear masks at bus stops and while on the bus. Social distancing is not guaranteed on our buses. Parents are encouraged to continue dropping off/picking up students if possible.

SCHEDULES: Normal schedules will be in place. We DO NOT have hybrid or remote-only options for the 2021-22 school year.

LOCKERS: Students at the middle and high schools will be issued a locker.  Physical Education classes will not use lockers.

REMOTE-ONLY FOR MEDICAL EXEMPTIONS: The district is contracting with Dutchess County BOCES to provide fully remote-only instruction for those students who qualify. The application process for the BOCES K-12 Virtual Learning Academy requires a letter from a medical doctor and committee approval. Please contact administrator Dr. Zahedi via email kzahedi@rhcsd.org for more information.

TECHNOLOGY: Teachers in Mill Road will utilize Google Classroom. Teachers in LAMS and RHHS will utilize Microsoft Teams. If needed, devices for use at home to support remote learning will be provided upon request.

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING: School-based social workers, psychologists and counselors will be available to support the transition back to school. Opportunities will be provided to new students and/or students on fully remote instruction last year who need support re-entering school in September. For further information, please contact your student’s building principal.

SPORTS: Based off Section IX recommendations, we will conduct the fall 2021 season in all sports.  Indoor sports of Volleyball and Girls Swimming (except when in the water) are required to wear masks. This includes players, coaches, site personnel and officials.  Indoor sports will allow spectators. Spectators will be required to wear masks. Outdoor sports will not require masks for players, coaches, site personnel and officials. Outdoor sports will allow spectators with no mask requirements.  Spectators should follow social distancing and all other mitigating protocols to keep all participants as safe as possible.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES: Students will not be required to change for PE classes at the secondary level, and will not use lockers.  Classes will be conducted as much as possible outdoors, weather permitting.  Social distancing will be used during physical education classes.

MUSIC: Band, orchestra and chorus will resume.  Students will be socially distanced during these times.  Instrument covers will be provided as appropriate. Air purifiers will be used. Outdoor spaces will be utilized.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The district continues to monitor guidance from the New York State Education Department, the state and county health departments, and the Governor’s office. We will revise/update our plan accordingly and notify parents of those updates.
