Arts in Education
Overview
Arts in Education programs have long been valued learning experiences in New York State schools. The State's magnificent arts and cultural institutions (museums, libraries, historical sites, performing arts companies, and teaching artists) support and enrich school curriculum across the New York State learning standard areas. Current research demonstrates that integrating the Arts into general education throughout the learning process, in addition to sequential teaching in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts, significantly enhances students' cognitive, personal, and social abilities.
Arts in Education programming is an important component of the State Education Department's efforts to raise student achievement for all and close gaps in student performance.
