Capital Improvements
The Red Hook Central School District in the past decade has provided much-needed repairs, upgrades and modernization to each of its buildings, with much of the work happening through capital improvement projects. Take a look at how it works and some of the notable improvements below.
Why Are Capital Improvements Needed?
After decades of use, each of our school buildings are aging and have had elements and resources that are out of date with modern needs. The district in recent years has made an effort to upgrade and repair the buildings to better serve students and remain strong for decades to come.
Why Improve Through Ballot Propositions?
By making facilities upgrades through a ballot proposition rather than a part of the annual budget, the district:
• Gives residents more ability to be heard and approve the district’s plans while maximizing transparency
• Can access state aid and lower cost for taxpayers in ways it cannot through an annual operating budget
• Keeps budgets consistent from year-to-year to remain in compliance with tax cap regulations
• Can pace longterm work out over multiple years, as needed
The district is strategic in what improvements are proposed to voters, both in when and what is most needed by students and how best to maximize state aid and other funding sources like grants and incentive programs. Often, the district has completed capital improvement projects under the proposed budget.
Take a look below at how recent and ongoing capital improvement work has improved our district:
