LAMS students' art on display at SUNY New Paltz after earning HV regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards
Two Linden Avenue Middle School students will have artwork on display through March 1 at SUNY New Paltz after earning Silver Keys in the 2026 Hudson Valley Art Region Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
Clara Mauney and Ben Nickerson will be among the honorees at the Hudson Valley Art Awards Ceremony 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at New Paltz’s Studley Theater.
The regional competition, for teens in grades 7-12, is a part of the national Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, which date back to 1923. Art teacher Ana O’Keefe let all seventh and eighth grade students know about the competition, and eighth graders Mauney and Nickerson were among those who chose to enter. All pieces were judged in the second week of January and winners were notified soon after.
Mauney’s piece, titled “Parrot and Toy,” is a linoleum block print and took a Silver Key in the Printmaking category.
Nickerson’s piece titled “Botanical Flow” earned a Silver Key in the Ceramics and Glass category.
Their artwork will be on public display from Feb. 7 to March 1 at the SUNY New Paltz’s Fine Arts Building Rotunda along with other regionally honored pieces. Viewing hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
